Nicola has 12 years' experience researching and writing about legal issues and the legal world. She qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and has also been writing on the law ever since - both while practicing as a solicitor and full time. She has left legal practice for now, and is a full time legal writer on all matters relating to the law and legal practice, and business and finance from a legal perspective. She writes, edits and acts as consultant for a broad range of publications, directories, internet sites, legal publishers and other clients in the legal and business markets both in the UK, America and internationally.

If you are a law firm and think you can manage to write all your material internally, read this excellent and useful article from the Law Society Gazette on why law firms and organisations should use professional legal writers - and think again.

Nicola's special interests include student issues and continuing profession development. Nicola's writing experience as a legal journalist and legal writer over the past decade ranges from writing a book aimed at law students on how to get into the solicitors' profession, to drafting press releases; and from writing in-depth technical features to succinct news stories; and from researching and writing lengthy country editorials for legal directories - to writing concise articles for legal websites and writing text for legal and law firm websites. She is also the UK consultant to a major legal publishing company in the USA.

She delivers on time, to budget and strictly to brief.

Legal Journalist

About Me - In Brief

I have gone full circle in my career as a legal writer and journalist, starting with NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists) post-graduate training and then a Law degree. I qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and remained in private practice for a few years. In 2000, with the publication of my book and the birth of my first child, I decided to concentrate on legal writing full-time. Then in 2006, I returned to legal practice, finishing two years later to concentrate fully on my first love: legal writing.

Meanwhile, I lectured on the Legal Practice Course, became a distance tutor for the Council of Licensed Conveyancers for their Conveyancing and Probate courses and had two more children. I've also managed to squeeze in some gardening, relaxing on the piano, being involved in church activities - and fitting in some sleep.

In early 2009, I was asked by the Solicitors' Journal to write a feature on my change in career - Click Here.
